Shutter Speed

Image
What is shutter speed? Shutter speed is the length of time the digital sensor is exposed to light How shutter speed works technically (in camera) and visually (in photo) When the shutter speed is set to seconds it shows more of a blur in the object you took a picture of. However, when the shutter speed is over 1 it makes the object in the picture look still because the camera is taking the picture quicker. What happens to the exposure triangle when you change your shutter speeds? When the shutter speed changes that means you have to change the f stop first and then change the ISO. If you want the object in your picture to be blurry you have to make your shutter speed lower and then change the aperture to seconds and then zero it out in the light meter. However, if you want the object in the picture to be still you have to make the shutter speed higher which means you have to change the aperture and the ISO.

Aperture

Image
What is Aperture? The amount of light through the lens. The aperture variates, which can change the depth of field. How does aperture work technically and visually? The smaller the number of the f stop, the bigger the opening of the lens is. This is called select focus, which shows a shallow depth of field. The higher the f stop the smaller the opening of the lens is. What happens to the exposure triangle when you change your aperture? To change your light meter you must change your shutter speed. We kept the ISO the same, but changed the shutter speed throughout this project. When the lens is wider that means the aperture is smaller and the faster the shutter speed is. When the lens is smaller that means the aperture is bigger and the shutter speed is slower.

Thematic Identity

My thoughts: I enjoyed this project because it allowed me to show my personality without having to talk in front the class about myself. However, I did have trouble coming up with ideas for some of the themes. I enjoyed combining my portrait and the themes template together. I especially enjoyed experimenting with the opacity setting because it allowed me to have many choices instead of limiting me to a few options. The overall project challenged me to showcase who I am as a person and gave me a chance to experiment with different settings inside photoshop and lightroom to help me bring out my personality. Favorite photos: This is one of my favorite pictures because my dog means everything to me because he always brings a smile to my face. He never stops moving and always wants to play. No matter how upset I am he is always there to cheer me up.  I also like this picture because music means a lot to me because it allows me to express my feelings when I’...

Selfie vs. Portrait

Image
Selfie: Portrait: Similarities:  - They are both pictures of you - they both represent your personality in some way Differences:  - the selfie is less formal than the portrait - the portrait is taken by someone else - the selfie allows you to have more control of how you want it to look, while the portrait is made by the photographer - the selfie is how you want others to see, but the portrait is how the photographer sees you Selfie or Portrait? I like the portrait better because I think it represents my personality better than the selfie because it shows that I am shy and have trouble making eye contact with people when I first meet them. Color version or black and white version?  I like the black and white one better because it has more of a professional look to it and it helps show the lighting of the portrait better. Differences taking your own photo vs. having someone else taking your picture:    -if you tak...

Peer Portrait

Image
ADAM SHALAN This is Adam Shalan. He describes himself as shy but also brave at the same time. One thing that he is proud of about himself is being confident about who he is as a person. However, he says he sometimes wishes he could be more outgoing in some situations. A place where you might often find Adam is at the soccer field, in his basement playing video games, or hanging out with friends. This portrait represents his identity because he is making eye contact with the camera, which shows his confidence. But he is also sitting there quietly, which shows the shy side of his personality. Reflection: Overall I enjoyed this project and being able to meet someone new along the way. At some points in the studio it was hard to communicate because I did not know my partner. However, we eventually were able to come up with ideas and communicated with each other a lot better as we got to know each other. I think that the pictures I took of my partner turned out bette...
