Focal length is how much of the scene is captured.

Why would someone choose to photograph with different lenses?
Someone might want to use a wide angle lens if they want to take a picture of landscapes and group portraits. However, some people might want to use a telephoto lens if they want to take a picture of wild life, and sports. Lastly, some people may one to use a standard lens if they want their picture to look like it is from a human eye perspective.
